Pie Am Thankful

Ryan LOVES pie.

And...I LOVE Ryan

I also love food
and I especially love cooking food.

Because of this combination of loves, I've recently I had the bug for baking pies:

Berry pies,
Peach pies,

Pear pies,

but mostly apple pies.
(They all look like the same pie...don't they?)

Recently, I have also had the bug for competition...specifically pie competitions.

I'm an amateur, but I wanted another reason to make a pie so, when I saw this:

I had to enter. My pie:

The Competition:

The Results:

Well...I didn't win...but one of the judges complimented my pie and since it seemed like the judges consumed more alcohol than pie, I felt good about how much was actually eaten out of my pie:

This is how much was eaten out of some of the other pies:

The best part? The pie free for all. I hadn't eaten all day and we were in a prime location to chow down!
(That's right, I'm basically shoving the whole pie in my mouth)

The worst part? The pie free for all: Bacon apple pie?(ahem...excuse me while I get on my soap box)
To all the Indie kids of Brooklyn (and anyone else who tries to imitate them): I know bacon in pastries is a big trend with you guys, but it's gross. Bacon Brownies? Bacon Cookies? Bacon Chocolate? Bacon Pie?
wrong.
wrong.
wrong.
WRONG!
Look, I too believe the pig is a magical animal, but I have yet to try one of your ironically seasoned sweets and like it. Please surprise me with something that's actually good or knock it off.
(Thanks...)

So...on to the next pie contest: Martha Stewart's First Annual Pie Contest. You can watch it here and you might just see a few shots of us in the audience.

Or you can see our picture here.

Results:
Well...it was rigged. For the record, my pie wasn't going to win anyway (there were really some impressive pies there), but I we walked in with the lady who "won" and they knew her name at the door. Some really cute old lady who used to be on the Rosie O'Donnell show...so she's some adorable celebrity grandma who makes pies..but come on...she really made the best pie? Doubtful.

Well...if I can get my celebrity status up for next year's competition, maybe I'll have a chance.

In any case, all of this pie baking has really put me in the mood to cook. I can't wait to leave work and cook some Turkey, potatoes, rolls, cranberry sauce...and especially pie!

Happy Thanksgiving!
