A few years ago Kim Gardner was visiting me and on our way to church I glanced at her legs and said something like, "Hey, nice white nylons."
She laughed because she wasn't wearing any nylons at all and thought I was just making a joke.
I wasn't making a joke.
In fact, it wasn't until hours later that I realized that she wasn't wearing nylons at all, that's just really the color of her skin.
But that's one of the reasons we lover her: pearly, white skin.
What was lovely, was that last weekend (i.e. March 21--late post, I know...I haven't been able to upload pictures to blogger) Kim Gardner came to visit. We hadn't seen her in MONTHS and since it was the warmest weekend we've had all year we gladly exposed our winter white skin while being outdoors all weekend long...and not just to make Kim feel better about that whole white nylon comment from a few years back.
Also, especially for her, we pulled out all of our favorite pictures of her to make her feel at home in Harlem
Went to a Broadway Show
We ate some great Chinese food
We celebrated Heather's birthday gluten-free style
We went to the Farmer's Market in Union Square
Visited the home of a dead author
We saw Anderson Cooper...not on purpose, but he just happens to live across the street from the dead author
Walked all around New York City
And went to Versailles...I mean, the Met
And we celebrated my birthday a little bit.
Also, if you know Kim Gardner, you must know that she always remembers your birthday and is a great gift giver. Some of my favorite books I've read have come from Kim.
Ironically, this year Kim gave me the book, "Stuff White People Like" and basically every activity we did that weekend had been made fun of by the book. So, I guess it was kind of Kim Gardner's way of proving who really has the fairest skin of all.
But, as you can see, it really is hard to tell who is whiter,
but that's probably why we get along so well.

i love that kim gardner! i was actually just thinking about her a couple days ago and wondering how the heck she was! i'm so glad to get an update. :)
How fun! I remember when Kim came to visit the city last time! Makes me miss NYC and you white girls!
hugs and happiness to you!
I've had a crush on Anderson Cooper since 7th grade. I would've been a total stalker if I'd seen him. Awesome. And happy birthday!
What you and Ryan never take into consideration is expectations. Next time I come up I fully plan on you topping the insane amount of me pictures and seeing a bust of my face in the middle of the living room. Oh the nightmares that would ensure. Don't do it. For the kids.
Alllllso, one time a girl (who really didn't like me very much and was trying to make me feel bad) gave me the nick-name Casper and called me that for an entire semester. Who's laughing now, huh?
